Valentines Day is over and I went two days with no sleep, but we delivered almost 600 ORDERS!!! So I am very happy : ) all my florist did a very good job and the flower shop was busy for three days straight. I heard about many florist in the northwest that were not as lucky because of weather. I know that for most florist (me included) the extra income from Valentines Day is very important. We use this money to buy or replace equipment and make upgrades to the flower shop. I could not imagine what you all had to go through and my heart and prayers go out to all of the florist.
In a previous blog entry I had advised Florist to NOT buy codified items for Valentines Day and to concentrate on local flower shop traffic. I know that at both my shops we did not buy codified items and it made for a much smoother Valentines Day. Our florist could concentrate on doing more profitable and intresting flower arragements. I would like to hear what other florist think even though my mind is made up and we will NEVER buy codofied items for Valentines Day again. Maybe you have a diffrent option so let me know.
Also, http://www.findmylocalflorist.com is done!!! So now that Valentines Day is over I plan to take the next month off from the flower shop (and let my florist run the shop) so I can promote this new site!!! I am so proud that I have been able to create a directory for all florist can place a FREE AD for their flower shop!!! We are the only directory ran by actual retail florist and that offer FREE AD's to all Retail Flower Shops. So over the next month I will write more and keep you up to date..and as always if you have questions feel free to email me here. Thanks Again, Mitch the Real Florist

Mitch,
Great blog and super information.
I happened to come across your blog looking for information on running a successful florist. After reading some of your posts I'm thinking you might have some great insight and wouldn't mind sharing some of your wisdom.
My fiancée and her friend are looking at purchasing an existing florist that is for sale. Do you mind helping me understand the benefits and pitfalls and what look for when considering the purchase of an existing business.
Your blog may not be the best media for this conversation so please send me an email if you are willing to provide us a little guidance.
Thank you,
Mitch,
I forgot my email mwork1111@yahoo.com
Thanks again,
I am trying to find out information regarding the floral industry in Pomona, i.e. Pomona Valley. Does anyone know what is the oldest florist in Pomona? I know several who have been around since the 1970's. In 1953 there was Flower Lane and Pollock's listed in the directory and they were at the same locations but I know both have changed owners. Where did early florists get their flowers? Were there any local flower growers in the area? I am interested in the flower industry from a local perspective and would appreciate any information anyone and everyone can give me. Thanks, Mickey Gallivan, Historical Society of Pomona Valley, Inc. email- pomonahistorical@verizon.net, phone 909 623-2198
